Blu Hors Matine euthanized last month

Every few months I check in on Blu Hors Matine, a favorite dressage horse of mine (as well as a favorite of thousands of others).

Today I stumbled across the bad news that she had been injured in the field and was put down.

After an injury slipping off a trailer, she never reached competition soundness again, and was retired to be a brood mare. It doesn't sound like they know how she injured herself in the field.

Sadly, the quality of the video isn't as good as the one that used to be posted. It's so seldom you see a horse that really seems to enjoy being worked. She was a delight to watch.

How sad. This article said that she was in foal at the time of her death! EVEN MORE SAD!

I had never heard of her before but after looking at the tape you can really tell that she loved what she did! Very sad...

On a happier note, have you seen the story of Molly the three-legged horse?

Cut and paste the link below to watch. Makes my heart glad!

Actually, I'm not too sure how much she loved what she was doing. She was lashing her tail hard enough to sprain it, and a lashing tail is usually an indicator of annoyance at the very least.

You're right though, she was a beautiful horse.

I think she loved it -- her ears are so relaxed and loose --- the lashing tail is not always a sign of annoyance; sometimes it indicates the level of muscle use in the back ...
